Isn't it funny how deceiving photographs
can be sometimes? For example,
it may look like a beautiful warm
summer day as we enjoyed our time
out at the beach. But in reality
I think we all came out of this
photographic journey with a sniffle
and wet clothes!
November in South Carolina really isn't all that cold, but down at the beach, in the water, with the wind blowing, well it's definitely chilly. In fact if you look close enough, you may even see goose bumps on Fran's belly as we made this beautiful pregnancy portrait of her.
If you aren't from South Carolina or don't spend much time at the beach, you may not realize that when the tide is out, the ground is so shallow beneath the water that you literally could walk 1/4 mile out into the water and still not touch any waves and be only ankle deep. Well, on this not so warm November day, Fran and I were creating beautiful portraits of her on the beach. But without the waves touching her, it just was still missing something. So I strapped my camera around my neck, and we both took a nice stroll into the ocean towards the waves. We had great conversation going, talking about her son Lance, and her soon to be newborn baby girl, Julia. In an instant, we both took a step about half way out there and went from calf deep to waist deep! The photographer instinct in me, put my hands immediately on my camera and raise it high in the air as we both cracked up laughing about her see-through white skirt and my now heavily weighted down blue jeans.
Finally we reached the waves, and what the heck we were both now soaked, so why not go for the Sports Illustrated look. I got right down into the water with my camera and lens only inches from the incoming waves, and Fran, cold and wearing the thinnest of clothes, stuck it out and sat right in that cold November water! I was cold just watching her! But the finished image, I can't stop looking at. She is a stunningly beautiful pregnant woman.
